Dr Ruth Pfau 57 State funeral for leprosy fighter Dr Ruth Pfau is underway

KARACHI: The funeral rites of leprosy fighter Dr Ruth Pfau – who devoted her last 50 years of life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan – are being performed today (Saturday) with state honour here in the Christian Cemetery (Gora Qabristan), ARY News reported.

In pursuance of the announcement by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, state funeral would be accorded to Sister Ruth Katharina Martha Pfau at 1 pm today.

Dr Pfau’s dead body was shifted to Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC) from Holy Family Hospital of Karachi, a short while ago and from where it would be shifted to St. Peter’s Church at 11 am.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and other high-level officials would attend the last rites of Pakistan’s ‘Mother Teresa’.
