Bystanders teamed up to save a kayaker that got caught in rapid waters in Six Mile Creek, Alaska, on August 12.Onlooker James Bennett caught the moment amateur kayaker Daniel Hartung was caught in a current and hit a submerged mid-channel rock causing his kayak to flip and him to be thrown into the chilly water.Bennett, standing on the opposite side of the creek, can be heard shouting for help as he watched Hartung being taken by the rapid water. A bystander, Obadiah Jenkins, rushed to help Hartung by throwing a rope which Hartung held onto while three other people arrived to help pull him out of the water.Jenkins jumped into the raging river to help Hartung, who had become trapped with his leg under a log. Both men were pulled out of the water by the kayakers on land but Hartung was unconscious at the time he was pulled out of the water. The kayakers on land took turns resuscitating Hartung until he regained consciousness.Jenkins attended the Six Mile Creek Whitewater and Bluegrass Festival with intentions of being a spectator at the event but he was later persuaded by his friends to join in the festivities in celebration of his 33rd birthday.Jenkins and Hartung had minor injuries from the event but are both doing well.
