by Jeff DonlanDespite North Korea’s looming missile threat, it hasn’t rattled many residents of Guam. But let’s take a step back for a moment: Where is Guam, and why is it in North Korea’s crosshairs?Guam, a 210-square-mile island, is a U.S. territory in the Pacific Ocean. It’s located 2,100 miles south of North Korea and 4,000 miles west of Hawaii. The island is also the closest U.S. territory to North Korea.IIts two large U.S. military bases occupy about one-third of the island. The 163,000 residents that make up Guam’s population, which includes 6,000 U.S. service members, are considered U.S. citizens. To this point, Guam Gov. Eddie Calvo supports President Donald Trump’s tough talk toward North Korea. And residents agree.
