The metal box was discovered in June when a Confederate statue was removed from a city park.
Though some thought they would find only dust inside, the box contained a number of historically important items.
After very carefully opening the capsule with a series of drill holes, a variety of well-preserved contents were delicately removed and placed in protective sleeves. They include newspapers, Confederate money, lapel pins, flags, and documents.
The city will likely forward the artifacts to an area historical center to be archived, notes the Orlando Sentinel.
