Baltimore Defense Attorney Accuses Police of Planting Evidence

Baltimore Police Department have opened an investigation after a local defense attorney released body camera footage that he says shows officers planting drugs on a suspect.This is the second time in the past two weeks that body camera footage has been released following accusations Baltimore Police officers planted evidence.Defense attorney Joshua Insley released the footage on Tuesday, August 1, one day after the Baltimore state’s attorney’s office dropped all charges against his client, according to the Baltimore Sun. Shamere Collins, 35, had faced drugs charges after officers recovered heroin and marijuana from her car in a November 2016 traffic stop.The body camera footage appears to show one officer placing something into the driver’s side of a car. After he stands back up, another officer kneels back down and recovers marijuana in the same spot where the previous officer had knelt just moments before. Two other videos show the same scene from different perspectives.The Baltimore Police Department said in a statement it was working with the Office of the Public Defender and the State’s Attorney’s Office to investigate the incident following the release of the videos.
