It turns out that after many Phish concerts, fans buy balloons full of nitrous oxide. Men with nitrous tanks sell the balloons to concertgoers. The Phish fans then inhale the gas to get high. Nitrous balloons usually sell for $10 each or four for $20. The selling of nitrous at each concert is a $300,000 business, The Village Voice reported.
