President Trump often uses Twitter to comment on matters of international concern.
An editorial published by China’s state-run news agency Xinhua on Monday makes it clear that the nation would prefer he not do that, reports the New York Times.
Xinhua notes, “Trump is quite a personality, and he likes to tweet. But emotional venting cannot become a guiding policy for solving the nuclear issue on the peninsula.”
The statement is in regards to North Korea and in response to the U.S. president’s weekend tweets on the matter.
Trump said via Twitter on Saturday, shortly after the reclusive Asian nation's second intercontinental ballistic missile test, “I am very disappointed in China. Our foolish past leaders have allowed them to make hundreds of billions of dollars a year in trade, yet they do NOTHING for us with North Korea, just talk. We will no longer allow this to continue. China could easily solve this problem!”
Xinhua’s editorial advises against turning China into a target for outrage and suggests, “If you want to solve the nuclear issue on the peninsula, the parties concerned must come up with practical actions and sincerity, not shirk responsibility."
