While Monday's news coverage focused on the ouster of Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director, President Trump tweeted it's been a "great day."
His brief tweet read, "A great day at the White House!"
When asked about Scaramucci's departure, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a press briefing, "the President certainly felt that Anthony's comments were inappropriate for a person in that position. And he didn’t want to burden General Kelly also with that line of succession."
Sanders was likely referencing to Scaramucci's recent expletive-laden interview with the New Yorker in which he slammed several White House staffers.
Monday was also the day when retired Gen. John Kelly, who served as Trump's secretary of homeland security, was sworn in as the new White House chief of staff.
The president said of Kelly during a press appearance, "He will do a spectacular job, I have no doubt, as Chief of Staff. What he's done in terms of Homeland Security is record-shattering -- if you look at the border, you look at the tremendous results we've had."
Trump continued, "So I want to congratulate you on having done a fantastic job, General. And we look forward to, if it's possible, an even better job as Chief of Staff."
