Canadian Tire Employee 'No Longer at Company' Following Physical Altercation With Indigenous Man Over Chainsaw

Canadian Tire said on July 29 that an employee involved in a physical alteration in East Regina, Saskatchewan, on July 26 with an indigenous man, Kamao Cappo, whom he suspected of attempting to steal a chainsaw, was no longer with the company.Footage of the July 26 incident, streamed to Facebook by Cappo, shows the altercation. In it, the employee accuses Cappo of trying to steal the chainsaw, an accusation Cappo denies. The employee attempts to physically remove Cappo from the store. A second video shows the employee having removed Cappo from the store.Cappo describes himself as indigenous and characterized the incident as “violent” and “racially charged.”He also posted a video on July 29 in which he played an audio recording described as being a recording of his phone call with an associate vice president of Canadian Tires called Julie in which the two discuss a meeting about the incident.
