Netanyahu Defends Decision to Remove Metal Detectors From Temple Mount

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended his decision to remove security measures from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem during a cabinet meeting on July 30.Speaking before his weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said he ordered the measures to be rolled back over concern for Israel’s overall security after weeks of protests at the site. “I am attentive to the feelings of the public, I understand those feelings, I know that the decision we made is not an easy one," he said.Netanyahu also announced plans to push ahead with other security measures, including reinforcement of security forces on the Temple Mount and throughout the Old City of Jerusalem.He said he had instructed Israel Police and the Cabinet to approve a $28 million budget to create new technology security solutions for the site.
