Former President Obama is speaking out after the scaled-down version of the GOP health care bill failed to pass in the Senate early Friday.
A statement released by Kevin Lewis, his spokesperson, reads, in part, “The Affordable Care Act has made American stronger and healthier, but there will always be more work to do.”
“President Obama has always said we should build on this law, just as members of both parties worked together to improve Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid over the years," the statement continues. "President Obama still believes that it is possible for Congress to demonstrate the necessary bipartisanship and political courage to keep delivering on the promise of quality, affordable health insurance for every American.”
Former Vice President Joe Biden also reacted to the outcome, tweeting, "Thank you to everyone who tirelessly worked to protect the health care of millions. You saved lives."
Meanwhile, President Trump expressed his disappointment on Twitter, "3 Republicans and 48 Democrats let the American people down. As I said from the beginning, let ObamaCare implode, then deal. Watch!"
