'Worst nightmare' Family of police officer killed in Manchester demand tougher sentences
THE HEARTBROKEN family of an off-duty police officer who was killed in the Manchester terror attack have called for tougher sentences for terror suspects following her funeral today

Some of Ms McIver's colleagues formed a guard of honour as the coffin, which was draped in a flag with her officer's helmet placed on top, arrived. And those attending the service broke out in applause as the coffin was carried into the cathedral. In a statement released after the service, the family said the last six weeks without Ms McIver had been like a nightmare. They said: “Today is the day we say goodbye to our beloved Elaine. The last six weeks have been our worst nightmare.“The perpetrator was 22 years old and previously known about by our authorities.“I would like to see changes brought about so that we have more resources and more powers to ensure that any suspects are dealt with effectively and are not allowed back onto our streets to wreak the havoc and devastation they are causing.”The family revealed her partner Paul, who was also seriously injured in the blast, was recovering but had a long journey ahead before he would be better completely. They added: “Paul continues to improve physically but it is a long road ahead and the family have been overwhelmed and humbled by the support received which keeps us strong.”They described Ms McIver as “kind and wonderful” and said they would concentrate on celebrating her life. Speaking after the service, Cheshire's chief constable Simon Byrne said it had been "a difficult hour, but a fitting tribute". He said: ”She was clearly a person who meant so much, both to her family and the force. She was full of life, always seeing the bright side of life."Det Con McIver had worked on a number of very complex and "specialist" cases during her career. And her dedication in using complex legislation to bring criminals to justice even earned her praise in a letter from the prime minister,.He added: "She always went the extra mile for victims to have people brought to book.". 00FastNews.
