Amid heightened security at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israeli security forces fired rubber bullets and scuffled with Muslim worshippers in order to disperse a demonstration near the Lion’s Gate of the Old City’s Muslim Quarter on July 18.An undisclosed number of wounded Palestinians are being treated for their injuries at a nearby hospital. The protests came after President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party reportedly called for a “day of rage” against metal detectors and turnstiles at the entrance the al-Aqsa mosque compound that were introduced after a deadly shootout there four days earlier.Israeli police said on Twitter that they had used “means of dispersal” after Muslim worshippers had thrown stones and bottles at officers.
