Spanish Parliament Speaker Ana Pastor presides Spain Day at EXPO 2017

Astana, Jul 17 (EFE).- The Speaker of the lower house also underlined the research being done on energy taking place within Spanish borders.

"The Almeria Solar Platform is an world-class center in the field of solar thermal research, and the National Renewable Energy Center (CENER) is the first laboratory in the world to test the strength and quality of wind turbines" she explained.

The Flamenco group Compañía Flamenca and theater company Carros de Foc performed at the Spanish pavilion to celebrate Spain Day at the Expo.

In addition to those performances, the Spanish Pavilion will host various cultural and gastronomic events all week long.

"We want the Spanish pavilion to become the protagonist this week, and to be a global experience for the visitors of the pavilion to learn about Spain," said Spanish pavilion curator Fernando Benzo. To mark the event of Spain Day, both countries will sign various agreements, such as a pact to protect classified information.

"We will not be here at the Expo without marking this event with high political significance, highlighting the good and close friendship that exists between Spain and Kazakhstan," said Benzo.

The Kazakh Aviation Industry LLP and Airbus Defence and Space are are to sign a cooperation agreement to strengthen support between the two companies.

The Kazakh Ministry of Health and Spanish company Eurofinsa are on track to approve a memorandum for the construction and management of a hospital in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city.

During her visit to the Central Asian country, Pastor also presented the Order of Isabella the Catholic to the president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, on behalf of King Felipe VI, who officially granted it to him on Jun. 23.

"I want to thank President Nursultan Nazarbayev for his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations based on trust and mutually beneficial cooperation," said Pastor during the ceremony.

According to the Royal Decree signed by the King, the award was given as a symbol of appreciation for the Kazakh leader, and was initially proposed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

During the tour of the international exhibition, Pastor was accompanied by Vice President of the Kazakh Congress Gulmira Isinbayeva, Spanish Ambassador to Kazakhstan Pedro Sanz, Director of Spain's Public Agency for Cultural Action (AC/E) Elvira Marco, and AC/E President and Secretary of State for Culture Fernando Benzo, who is also the curator of the pavilion.
