Julio Borges, president of Venezuela’s National Assembly and a leading opposition figure, was one of more than seven million people who cast a vote in an unofficial referendum on July 16.A woman was reportedly shot dead while in a line to vote in the referendum, in which voters rejected a citizens assembly proposed by President Nicolas Maduro that would have the power to dismiss the national assembly and rewrite the constitution.The referendum had no legal power.
