A steady stream of Hong Kongers took to the streets of the city’s Central district on the evening of July 15 to remember deceased Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo in a candlelight march.According to Hong Kong Free Press, more than a thousand participated in the march, which ended at the China Liason Office in Sai Wan.Local pro-democracy lawmaker Albert Ho, chairman for the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China, which had organized the event, said the group would continue Liu’s fight for democracy in China. He also called for the release of Liu’s wife, poet Liu Xia, who has been under house arrest since 2010.Liu Xiaobo, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, died from liver cancer on July 13 at the age of 61 in a hospital in Shenyang, northeast Mainland China. He had been serving an eleven-year term since 2009 for subversion charges, and his family had sought permission to send him overseas for medical treatment, according to the South China Morning Post.
