A state lawmaker in Maine has expressed regret over his recent Facebook rant about President Trump, which includes a statement that could be interpreted as a threat of harm, reports the Bangor Daily News.
The social media post written by State Representative Scott Hamann, who serves the South Portland area, reads, in part, “Trump is a half term president, at most, especially if I ever get within 10 feet of that p***y.”
The Daily Caller notes that other highlights include the assertion that Trump was, “installed by the Russians,” and an estimate that, “100% of intelligent Americans agree that Trump is a complete loser.”
Hamann’s lengthy post was shared by multiple users on Tuesday evening.
A statement from Hamann released on Wednesday notes the comments were made in, “a Facebook exchange with a childhood friend,” and acknowledges they were, “inappropriate” and “aggressively sarcastic.”
The lawmaker also said, “This is not language I typically use, it does not reflect my personal values and, while misguided, it was intended to make a visceral point about the devolving political discourse in America.”
An individual from a regional Secret Service office told the Bangor Daily News that no investigation is being conducted at this time.
