President Trump's son Donald Trump Jr., in the stated interest of “transparency,” released an email exchange on Tuesday that included the offer of damaging information about Hillary Clinton obtained by Russia.
It shows that he was rather enthusiastic about the possibility, responding, in part, “love it.”
The published correspondence chain also shows that the New York Times was correct when, on Monday night, it reported that Trump Jr., “was informed in an email that the material was part of a Russian government effort to aid his father’s candidacy, according to three people with knowledge of the email.”
The original email, sent by Trump family associate Rob Goldstone, states, “This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump…”
Goldstone says it was provided through mutual acquaintances Emin and Aras Agalarov, who were part of the pro-Trump effort.
Trump Jr.’s full response to the offer was, “Thanks Rob I appreciate that. I am on the road at the moment but perhaps I just speak to Emin first. Seems we have some time and if it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer."
On June 9, 2016, Trump Jr. met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, who, according to the New York Times, had promised to deliver the Clinton information.
Both have said that nothing substantive regarding Trump’s opponent in the presidential race or the campaign was discussed.
