This Golden Retriever Is Cleaning Up China’s Rivers
  • 7 years ago
by Andrew CaringiIn the U.S., playing fetch with your dog can be a fun way to pass the time. But for one golden retriever in China, it’s making an impact on the local environment.A golden retriever in the Jiangsu Province of China has removed more than 2,000 plastic bottles from rivers in the region, collecting an average of about 20 to 30 bottles a day. The efforts come after more than 10 years of training. How does the dog do this? Saying the word, “retrieve,” sends the dog hunting for plastic. With China accounting for 28 percent of the world’s plastic bottle demand, many of China’s rivers are heavily polluted as a result. While better recycling schemes are needed to truly clean up China’s water, the dog is definitely doing its barking best to make a difference.
