The fallout over Kathy Griffin’s controversial Trump photo appears to be continuing for the comedian, as she was reportedly questioned by the Secret Service for an extended period.
Yashar Ali, who writes for New York magazine, among other publications, tweeted Monday, “News: Kathy Griffin has been interviewed by the Secret Service, in-person, for over an hour...investigation still not closed.”
While Griffin herself has not yet spoken out about the recent meeting, she had indicated in a tweet last week that she was under federal investigation.
Meanwhile, the New York Times reported last month that her criminal attorney Dmitry Gorin said at a news conference that “we’re going to fully cooperate with the Secret Service in their investigation.”
He also defended her, saying, “She basically exercised her First Amendment rights to tell a joke. When you look at everything in the media, all the times entertainers make videos or express themselves in other ways, you’ve never seen an entertainer, let alone a comedian, be subject to a criminal investigation.”
The controversy with Griffin began in May after a photo was released of her holding what appears to be President Trump’s head.
CNN notes that while the comedian has apologized for the image, she has also alleged that Trump was “personally trying to ruin [her] life forever.”
