Disability Rights Advocates Protest GOP Healthcare Bill in Rochester
  • 7 years ago
A group fighting for disability rights protested inside the Monroe County Republican Party office in Rochester, New York, on Wednesday, June 28. The protest, organized by ADAPT, was protesting the Republican-sponsored healthcare bill. The group was chanting, “No cuts to Medicaid, save our liberty,” as they banged the table and other noise makers. ADAPT had organized other protests on Wednesday, and Rochester chapter members were among those pulled from wheelchairs and arrested at a US Capitol protest last week.Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, delayed a vote on the bill, which would repeal large portions of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. The bill would, in part, cut Medicaid expansion. Not enough Republican senators were expected to vote in favor of the bill. Now McConnell is working to get a revised bill to the Congressional Budget Office before the July 4 recess so a report would be ready when the senate is back in session in mid-July, according to a report.
