CNN Fires Back After Trump Says 'Ratings Way Down!'

CNN fires back at Trump after getting slammed by the president over a retracted story.

CNN has fired back in response to President Trump’s claim that its ratings had suffered in the wake of a retracted story about Russia.
Tuesday morning, the news outlet tweeted, “CNN just posted it's most-watched second quarter in history. Those are the facts.”
The message was posted just 20 minutes after Trump wrote on Twitter, “Fake News CNN is looking at big management changes now that they got caught falsely pushing their phony Russian stories. Ratings way down!”
The controversy began when CNN retracted a report about President Trump’s ally and outspoken supporter Anthony Scaramucci.
The network ended up issuing a statement that said, “On June 22, 2017, CNN.com published a story connecting Anthony Scaramucci with investigations into the Russian Direct Investment Fund. That story did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted. Links to the story have been disabled. CNN apologizes to Mr. Scaramucci.”
The New York Times has since reported, based on inside sources, that “CNN’s president, Jeffrey A. Zucker...was deeply upset by last week’s reporting errors.”
The story adds that “Zucker helped lead an internal inquiry that found the story was published despite concerns expressed by CNN’s standards team, the people said.”
According to the Washington Post, the CNN report was based on a single anonymous source, and it was soon criticized by other media outlets like Breitbart and Sputnik News.
Three journalists have left the organization in the aftermath of the retraction.
Scaramucci, the man at the center of the controversy, accepted CNN’s apology, but Trump has repeatedly blasted the network, tweeting earlier on Tuesday, “Wow, CNN had to retract big story on ‘Russia,’ with 3 employees forced to resign. What about all the other phony stories they do? FAKE NEWS!”
The president later added, “So they caught Fake News CNN cold, but what about NBC, CBS & ABC? What about the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost? They are all Fake News!”
