'American Idol' winner 'oppressed' by show's contracts

Phillip Phillips, the Season 11 winner of 'American Idol,' was not happy with the show's company 19 Entertainment. After signing contracts to secure his role in the competition, Phillips lodged a petition stating he was 'manipulated' into accepting jobs that only benefited the company. He claimed 19 Entertained violated California laws that state only licensed talent agents could find employment for clients. 19 declared bankruptcy after Fox canceled the show and filed a $6 million lawsuit against Phillips for keeping some of the company's money and breaching the contract. But the judge will let the Labor Commissioner decide if 19 did break California's Talent Agencies Act.
