Death Toll Climbs to 17 In London Apartment Fire

The 24-story Grenfell Tower is home to several hundred people. Residents had reportedly complained about fire safety for years. The high-rise, built in the 1970s, had no sprinkler system and several reports suggest external cladding added in 2015 may have also contributed to the fire’s rapid spread.The London Fire Brigade commissioner said she’d never seen a fire of this scale in her 29 years on the job. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
