by Jeff DonlanThe Bloodhound SSC might be the first car to go 1,000 mph. It’s a jet- and rocket-powered supersonic car with a test run this October in England. The vehicle is powered by a series of rocket engines and a military-grade jet engine. The Bloodhound SSC was due to start testing in 2015, but faced repeated delays because of design changes. The current land speed record is 763 mph, set in a Thrust supersonic car. It was driven by British Air Force pilot Andy Green in 1997. He’ll also be the first driver of the Bloodhound SSC.
