Bitcoin is giving cash a run for its money

Bitcoin reached a record high of $2,911.86 on Tuesday, according to CoinDesk. The digital currency rose nearly 200 percent, outperforming the S&P 500 (8.81 percent) and the Nasdaq (16.9 percent) composite in 2017. Bitcoin's recent surge comes after a plunge of over $300 on May 25. Bitcoin's generally fantastic year is largely due to its appeal in Asia, or more specifically, in Japan.
