Hypocrites are in constant distress

ADNAN OKTAR: Hypocrites are always in distress. God says in the verse, "Do not be deceived by the fact that those who are disbelievers move freely about the earth." One would think that they travel around out of pleasure, in fact it is out of distress. Hypocrites are always on the move. They constantly move from one place to another to escape from their distressful state of mind, but distress follows them wherever they go. Because the sense of distress is a burden on their back, it is a flame that has crept into and burns in their hearts. "A fire reaching right into the heart," says God in the verse of the Qur'an, "a fire of distress." No matter where hypocrites run off to, distress is with them. Those who see them would think that they are just traveling from one place to another. If you pay close attention to hypocrites, you can see that they are constantly on the move. A normal person also travels around, that is another story; I am referring to the hypocrites' incessant urge to travel. They do so to be free from their feeling of distress, but that feeling does not leave them. No matter where they go, they have the feelings distress. God says in the verse of the Qur'an; "...the earth became narrow for them, for all its great breadth..." This is a kind of torment that constricts one's bones. Notice that, God says, "...when the earth became narrow for them, for all its great breadth, and their own selves became constricted for them..." In order to become free of this agony and torment, hypocrites restlessly wonder around from one place to another. Hypocrites are quite hasty, which is caused by the sense of distress. For example, if they are waiting for the food to be served, they want it to be so hastily. When they want to get something, they want it to be delivered to them quickly. This is out of the severity of the distress. "Man was created (as) hasty," says God in the verse of the Qur'an. Believers overcome that haste through exercising patience. But since hypocrites lack patience, they suffer thoroughly. Let's imagine that they are going to travel abroad; they want to do so as soon as possible. They do not make any preliminary preparations. They behave erratically. For example, they wish to immediately fall asleep, but their hastiness does not allow them. Hypocrites have such insane world. Their hastiness astonishes people. They are quite impetuous in everything they do or want. God points to this fact in the Qur'an in the verse, "Man was created (as) hasty." Another characteristic of hypocrites is that they are insatiable and always want new things. As you know, God says in the verse, "Then he wants Me to add yet more!" They always want to add to what they have. One day they want one thing, the other day, they want another thing; they are never satisfied. This is also related to their constant sense of distress. It is in the same vein as their urge to move from one place to other.
