England defeated Bangladesh by 8 wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 opener at The Oval in London . Morgan had won the toss in sunny conditions and asked Bangladesh to bat. Tamim Iqbal scored the first century of the tournament and struck a brilliant 166-run partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim, who himself hammered a solid 79, to take Bangladesh to 305/6. In reply, the hosts reached home with eight wickets and 16 balls to spare with Joe Root scoring an unbeaten 133. Alex Hales scored 95 while England captain Eoin Morgan hit 75 not out to help Root take England home in the first match of the tournament. All bangladeshi bowlers proved to costly apart from Mashrafe Mortaza and Mohammad Rahman who got 1 wicket each. Joe Root was Man of the Match for his magnificent 133 runs. Let me tell you..306 is the highest ever successful chase in CT going past 294 chased down by SL vs ENG at the same venue in 2013.
