The Los Angeles Angels announced on Monday that MVP Mike Trout will be out for six to eight weeks following surgery. The All-Star was injured in Sunday’s game against the Marlins after he slid into second base. An MRI scan showed that Trout had a torn ligament in his left thumb and needs surgery to repair it. “I think you’ll feel that impact,” Angels GM Billy Eppler said, via MLB.com. “The team will require multiple people stepping up in his absence. The team will continue to fight, as it always does, but you know you’re losing the heart of your order and the heart of your defense and a leader in the dugout and on the bench. It’s something to absorb, there’s no doubt. But I know the guys in the clubhouse will do their darndest to absorb it.” Trout will receive surgery on Wednesday and will begin his rehab process right after.
