The Denver Post fired one of their writers on Monday after he tweeted that he was “very uncomfortable” with a Japanese driver winning the Indianapolis 500 during Memorial Day weekend. Writer Terry Frei posted the comment on Sunday after Takuma Sato became the first Japanese driver to win. The President and CEO of the Post Mac Tully and editor Lee Ann Colacippo released a statement apologizing for the tweet and said that Frei was let go from the paper. After he was fired, Frei published his own statement apologizing to Sato and the Denver Post. "I fouled up. I'm sorry," Frei wrote. "I made a stupid reference, during an emotional weekend, to one of the nations that we fought in World War II -- and, in this case, the specific one my father fought against."
