Mexican Police Prevent Highway Accident Involving Runaway Trailer

In this dramatic footage, Mexican police officers were able to prevent a highway traffic accident on Sunday, May 21, after a trailer truck on the highway outside of Mexico City suffered a brake malfunction, officials report.Officers diverted traffic away from the runaway trailer as it traveled on Mexican Federal Highway 150D at speeds of over 99 mph (160 kph) while carrying 15 tonnes of rolling paper.The truck was finally stopped after colliding with an emergency braking ramp, causing it to tip over. In the video we can see the driver of the trailer crawl out from the driver’s seat relatively unharmed. Medical personnel at the scene confirmed that the driver escaped serious injury.Emergency personnel were quick to the scene and in the video above you could see that fire extinguishers were used to extinguish the small fire that had started on the rear wheels.Police confirm that this mission is part of a larger “Operativo Carrusel” (Operation Carousel), which looks to ensure safer travel and prevent road accidents on highways.Police report that among the traffic diverted most notably were a truck loaded with gas tanks, another trailer and a tour bus carrying minors.
