Leading Eagle: Hewitt Gives Back to Statesboro On and Off the Court

Sun Belt RISE Program member Cesar Perez, a senior at Georgia Southern University, talked to men's basketball senior Jelani Hewitt about his impact on and off the court during his senior season in Statesboro. Hewitt is the leading scorer for the upstart Eagles, who are competing for one of the top two seeds in the 2015 Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship, and is heavily involved in the community of Statesboro, Ga.
Cesar Perez is a senior majoring in multimedia with an information emphasis at Georgia Southern University. His minor is music performance.
The Sun Belt Conference RISE Program is a partnership between the Sun Belt Conference and its 13 member institutions that gives one student on each campus the unique opportunity to act as a standalone digital media correspondent for the conference office. Each student aspires to have a career in digital media and has worked closely with Sun Belt Conference staff in developing each of their stories to tell the stories of student-athletes in a unique, intriguing and most importantly honest way.
