Barkhad Abdi Talks Piracy in Somalia, Captain Phillips Movie and Adjusting to American Lifestyle
  • 7 years ago
Barkhad Abdi broke out into Hollywood in his debut film, Captain Phillips alongside Tom Hanks. After leaving Somalia at the age of seven, and then eventually moving to the United States years later, Abdi responded to an open call he saw on TV and landed the role as the character Muse. Abdi also talks about the piracy in Somalia, and adjusting the American lifestyle, like seeing snow for the very first time. Barkhad went from the couch to the screen and is the definition of overnight celebrity.
