Magic Johnson Speaks on HIV/AIDS, His Son "Coming Out the Closet" & Who's the Best Today in NBA
  • 7 years ago
It's Black History month, so it's only right that we have the great and legendary Earvin "Magic" Johnson stop by Sway in the Morning!

We applaud Magic for being open about being HIV positive, and introducing Oraquick (available over the counter at local drug stores) to us -- an in-home HIV test.

"1.1 million people are living with HIV [in 2011]" Magic tells us. "Early detection" is
what can save you.

We carried on the conversation by dispelling some myths about his HIV infection, the medicine he takes and why it's considered doormat.

Mr. Johnson encourages the discussion about protecting yourself and your partner during sexual activities -- as well as having conversations with your children.

Earvin Johnson Jr -- who is a 21-year old gay man, as well as Magic's son -- came out of the closet when he was 17. Magic recalls being open and having this HIV-talk with his son.

The new owner of the Los Angeles Sparks gave us his thoughts on the toughest defender of the NBA league, best all around player, best scorer, and who is the next up-and-comer -- between Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Paul George.

Watch below for more, plus his advice on how to your partner if you are HIV positive.
