ABC will air a live-action 'Little Mermaid' musical this fall

ABC announced Tuesday that it will be turning the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” into a live TV musical. The Wonderful World of Disney: The Little Mermaid Live! will premiere this fall, in what the network describes as a "hybrid television experience" that will include both live-action and animated performances. The cast is still unknown, but the network said in a statement that the two hour special would include some of the musical's fans' "favorite celebrity artists." The news comes on the heels of Fox announcing live productions of Rent and A Christmas Story, while NBC will tackle Jesus Christ Superstar.
