Former U.S. Rep Corrine Brown was found guilty of 18 fraud and tax evasion charges on Thursday. Brown was found siphoning more than $800,000 from a charity with former chief of staff, Elias “Ronnie” Simmons. Reports state that out of all the money raised for One Door for Education, only $1,200 actually went to fund student’s education. Prosecutors said that Brown and Simmons pocketed the funds and used them on events such as NFL games and a Beyonce concert. Brown was originally faced with 22 counts of fraud, but was found not guilty of four of the charges.
