This Robot Just Operated On A Human Eye

by Jeff DonlanA robot just operated on a human eye for the first time ever. 12 patients in the UK underwent retinal surgeries; six by a human surgeon, and six by a robot. The patients that were operated on by the robot experienced less damage to the retina. The robot, aka the FlexDex surgical tool, attaches to a surgeon’s arm. Seven motors allow the robotic arm to make movements as precise as one micron. FlexDex’s creators say this could be used for surgeries previously thought to be too difficult.
