Hundreds of Migrants Rescued Off Libyan Coast

Over 650 people were rescued off the Libyan Coast on Saturday, May 6, the Spanish government said. The migrants were taken on board the Spanish vessel Canarias bettween Friday night and the early hours of Saturday and will land in Italy.The rescue was part of the European Union military mission Sophia for combating refugee smuggling in the Mediterranean. The Italian Coast Guard also reported the rescue of over 3,000 migrants on Saturday.
