Why MIT is 3D-Printing In Vats of Gel

The process, called Rapid Liquid Printing, injects liquified rubber, metal, or plastic into the vats to create different structures.  The gel supports the material as it hardens into a fully formed object in minutes. MIT’s Self-Assembly Lab partnered with furniture maker Steelcase to create the designs. The process is faster and uses stronger materials than traditional 3D-printing. And it can easily scale up — the only limit is the size of the vat of gel.
