USS Carl Vinson Receives Ammunition in Philippine Sea Prior to Military Drills

In a move intended to bolster the United States’ presence in the Asia-Pacific region amid tensions from North Korea, the USS Carl Vinson staged military drills with the South Korean Navy on April 29.This footage, filmed on April 24, shows helicopters delivering ammunition to the USS Carl Vinson prior to the drills. According to information provided by the US Navy, the ammunition drop off process, called a “vertical replenishment-at-sea,” took place in the Philippine Sea.The USS Carl Vinson entered the Sea of Japan on Saturday, April 29, following North Korea’s failed missile launch earlier in the day. In a report from Yonhap released that same day, the US Navy claimed that the warship’s joint exercises with the South Korean navy were “aimed at deterring North Korea’s provocations and strengthening the military readiness of the Korea-U.S. alliance.”
