Pelosi Wishes George W. Bush Was President Again

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has expressed nostalgia for former Republican President George W. Bush.
During an interview on ABC News’ 'This Week' Sunday, she defended the Democrats’ resistance to President Trump’s proposals by saying, “I see everything as an opportunity. And I've never have seen so much willingness to help win. And winning means winning for the American people, that either we win or whoever wins understands the priorities of the American people.”
She then misspeaks and says, “...they are not what President Bush…”
When Pelosi realizes that she accidentally swapped his name with Trump’s, she excuses her mistake and addresses Bush directly by saying, “So sorry, President Bush. I never thought I would pray for the day that you are president again.”
During an interview in Texas about a week-and-a-half ago, she made similar remarks, noting, “Did we ever think we would see the day when we would say, 'Please bring back George W. Bush?’ We really did work together.”
In fact, a recent piece by The Atlantic states that “Pelosi is the most specific but not the first example of Democrats expressing surprising fondness for the 43rd president.”
At least some of the goodwill seems to stem from indications that Bush remains resistant to Trump, including his unwillingness to give the businessman an endorsement during the presidential race.
Meanwhile, an op-ed in The Week points out that, in contrast to Trump, Bush has consistently tried to help minority communities and refrained from speaking against all Muslims despite the 9/11 terrorist attack.
According to CNN, Trump has, in the past, accused Bush of not doing enough to protect the country from the attack.
