U.S. and Canada do battle over spilled milk and soft wood

WASHINGTON — Looks like the U.S. is preparing for an all-out trade war with Canada.
Those incredibly shifty neighbors to the north have fired the first salvo in a trade war by slapping a tariff on American milk products.
Technological advances in milk filtration allowed American dairy producers to export ultrafiltered milk, cheese and yogurt to Canada while avoiding the country’s high dairy tariffs. Canada closed that loophole, which caused U.S. dairy farmers to take a hit.
This week, the Trump administration announced it’s planning a roughly 20 percent tariff on softwood lumber imported from Canada. The Canadians are known for their extremely soft wood, of which they exported $5.8 billion worth last year.
Trump shouldn’t stop there. It’s time to send in the troops. We need to go full on USA all over those Canucks and show them who’s the real boss in North America. And hell, while we’re at it, we might as well build a wall too — and have Canada pay for it.
