Paris shooting: Policeman and suspected gunman killed on Champs-Elysées

A 30-year-old French policeman was killed after an unidentified gunman opened fire at the armed forces on the Champs-Elysées in Paris on Thursday (20 April). Two police officers were also injured in the attack. The suspected gunman was also shot and killed at the scene, police said. The area around the iconic boulevard has been cordoned off. The Islamic State (Isis) militants group claimed responsibility for the attack, which came just three days ahead of the tense French presidential elections on 23 April.
