Unlikely Friendship Changes Everything For This Immigrant And Her Family

At age 35, Cassie Camilo needed to make a life changing and heartbreaking decision. The loss of her Mom, a divorce, and financial dire straits left her with only one option… to leave her 2 small children behind in her homeland of Brazil and move to the United States of America in hopes to find a better life for her family.

Cassie had heard stories of other women who came to work in the United States and would send their money back to help support their families. But leaving her 9 and 10-year-old children Jordan and Luana was the toughest thing she ever had to do in her life.

Cassie was working two manual labor jobs when she met Peter DeRosa, a successful restaurateur in Westport, CT. He hired her as a dishwasher and soon became her fast friend. Peter helped her in many ways including paying for her to learn English and enrolling her in community college. "I could tell that she is a special person. So, I did my share to try and help her whenever possible," said Peter.

Motivated by one day seeing her family again, Cassie worked hard at numerous jobs and gained a lot of respect from Peter. "He helped me a lot and everything changed with Peter." He even encouraged her to become a citizen. "Peter is my angel. I believe God sent me him," says Cassie.

Cassie got her happily ever after! Soon after Cassie was done with community college, she started her own cleaning business, again with the help of Peter and called it "Happy Angels." She was reunited with her kids, and about two years ago she married the love of her life, Jeremy Ramos.
