Amid ongoing scrutiny over possible conflicts of interest between her businesses and her influential role as a top adviser at the White House, Ivanka Trump has announced that she does not plan to go on a promotional tour for her new book.
On Thursday, she said on her Facebook page, “Empowering women has been central to my mission throughout my career, and with my book, Women Who Work, I hope to do just that.”
She later wrote, “Out of an abundance of caution and to avoid the appearance of using my official role to promote the book, I will not publicize the book through a promotional tour or media appearances.”
In fact, the first daughter had prefaced this statement by saying, “In light of government ethics rules, I want to be clear that this book is a personal project. I wrote it at a different time in my life, from the perspective of an executive and an entrepreneur, and the manuscript was completed before the election last November.”
According to Politico, she landed the book deal in November 2015 when “her father was still a longshot presidential candidate.”
Then, in January of this year, the book’s publisher indicated that the publication’s release would be delayed for two months--from early March to a current scheduled date of May 2--as a result of her family’s move to Washington, D.C., notes USA Today.
Ivanka noted that proceeds from the book as well as the unpaid portion of her advance will benefit the Ivanka M. Trump Charitable Fund which according to the first daughter aims to “make grants to charitable organizations that support the economic empowerment for women and girls.”
