Assia EL HANNOUNI (FRA) defended the T12 women's 400m title she won in
Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 when she covered one lap of the track in
55.39. Terezinha GUILHERMINHA (BRA) had the lead with 150m to go but
France's five-time Games gold medallist prior to the gun paced her race
to perfection as the popular Brazilian faded down the home straight to
finish out of the medals. "I am very pleased with my win, but not my
time. There was too much wind in the stadium and I may have done better
without it. My focus is now on the gold in the 200m." - Assia EL
