Assam becomes the first state to give nod to the GST bill. The 122nd Constitution amendment bill was passed in the parliament this week. The bill needs approval from at least 50% of Indian states before it can be sent to the President for his approval. The government is aiming to get the bill ratified by 16 states within the first week of September to stay on course its 1 April 2017 implementation deadline.
