Cleveland Police Confirm Death of Facebook Murder Suspect Steve Stephens

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams on Tuesday, April 18, confirmed the death of Steve Stephens, the suspect in the fatal shooting of the 74-year-old Robert Godwin Sr in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 16.Williams said Stephens was found dead after a brief pursuit in Erie, Pennsylvania, that morning, echoing reports from Pennsylvania State Police.Video showing Godwin’s death was posted to Facebook on April 16. Also in a Facebook video, Stephens said he had killed 13 people and planned on killing others. However, police said that no other victims had been discovered so far.In a statement shared on Facebook, Pennsylvania State Police said they received a tip from an “alert citizen” in Erie before locating Stephens in a white Ford Fusion, sparking a pursuit that stretched over about two miles. Police said they attempted a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver, making Stephen’s vehicle spin out of control. As it was spinning, Stephens shot himself in the head, police said.
