Ex-South Korean President formally charged in corruption scandal

Ex-South Korean president Park Guen-hye was indicted on numerous corruption charges Monday following her impeachment. Prosecutors state that she was charged with abuse of power, bribery, coercion, and for leaking state secrets. She was also charged along with accomplice Choi Soon-sil for extorting money from large companies and intervening in state affairs. Park was removed from office and arrested in March after the South Korean parliament decided to impeach her for the scandals. The Seoul Central District Court is expected to assign the case to a three-judge panel. If found guilty, Park could face life in prison.
