Turkey’s Erdogan declares victory in close vote to expand his powers

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to claim victory in Sunday national referendum that will significantly increase his powers and radically change Turkey's system of government. Out of over 98% of the ballots counted, Erdogan's referendum had 51.3% votes in favor and 48.7% votes against. While thousands celebrated, the opposition are voicing serious concern and demanding a recount, citing that the final count reveals a Erdogan winning by a very slight margin. If passed, the measures will give Erdogan sweeping powers and will represent the largest constitutional change in the country since its foundation in 1923.
